René J. Canezin is a Managing Partner and Founding Partner of Evolution Credit Partners. He has over 30 years of experience in building and managing investment businesses in multiple global locations across all asset classes and derivatives. René joined Harvard Management Company (“HMC”) in 2011, where he was responsible for building and managing the absolute return credit portfolio. During his tenure, he took additional leadership roles in overseeing Fixed Income, Commodities, and International Equities portfolios with total risk capital exceeding $3 billion. Prior to joining HMC, René spent 21 years at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Bank where, at Barclays, he held the position of Head of Global High Yield Trading and the Credit Opportunities Group (COG). René formed the COG group at Barclays in October 2008 which focused on credit opportunities across high yield, credit derivatives, CLO structured products, and CMBS. COG invested over $2 billion during the subsequent 2.5 years until he left for HMC where he launched a similar strategy. During his 18 years at Lehman Brothers, René held various responsibilities including Head of Structured Products and Head of U.S. High Yield trading and Principal Strategies, the proprietary credit trading arm of Lehman Brothers. René was an early pioneer in the structured credit space having closed well over a hundred structured finance transactions under one of the most prolific repackaging vehicles on Wall Street known as RACERS. Highlights include the formation and trading of the HY RACERS program (predecessor to HY ETFs), establishing terms and trading the first loan credit default swap, CDS recovery locks, and a patent application for an actively managed credit linked note program. René graduated magna cum laude from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
