Michael P. Guarnieri is a Managing Partner and Founding Partner of Evolution Credit Partners. He has 34 years of experience investing and lending to leveraged companies and analyzing credit and market risk during numerous credit cycles in the High Yield, Distressed and Structured Credit markets. Prior to founding the Firm in 2018, Michael joined Harvard Management Company (“HMC”) in early 2017 to build and grow the HMC Private Credit team with a focus on leveraging HMC’s private equity sponsor relationships. Prior to HMC, Michael worked at Nomura Securities International for seven years where he was responsible for investment decisions and capital allocation for all leveraged finance commitments and investments in the U.S. and Europe and the special situation commitments and investments in Asia. As part of this business, Michael managed $5.5 billion of risk capital, completed over $34 billion of transactions and managed a US and European portfolio of primarily first lien leveraged loans of approximately $1 billion. As Global Head of Flow Credit Products, Michael was also responsible for all secondary trading risk decisions across high yield, leveraged loans, distressed, emerging markets, convertibles and repo financing. He established Nomura Principal Credit Strategies (NPCS), which was a proprietary investment strategy focused on distressed, high yield, special situations and credit related equities. Prior to Nomura, Michael had a 15-year career at Lehman Brothers where he was the Global Head of Credit Research from 1997 through 2007. As part of Michael’s research responsibilities, he was a member of the High Yield Bond and Leveraged Loan Commitment Committee which was responsible for the risk management and pricing of Lehman Brothers leveraged finance commitments from 1997 through 2007. Quarterly risk capital committed to leveraged finance transactions ranged from $3 billion to $20 billion. From 2007 through 2009, Michael was Group Head and Founder of Lehman Brothers Global Mezzanine Partners I, a $300 million mezzanine fund. Michael graduated cum laude from Fordham University, College of Business Administration with a BS in Business Administration and concentration in Finance.
