Catherine Zou is a vice president in the Portfolio Valuation practice, based in London. Catherine specialises in private credit and private equity instruments valuation. She is focused on assisting alternative investment managers, such as hedge funds, private debt and private equity funds.

Catherine leads portfolio valuation engagements across a range of asset classes, which include private senior and subordinated debt; common and preferred equity; warrants; convertible loan notes; distressed debts; non-performing loan pools; collateralised fund obligations; asset-backed securities; mortgage-backed securities; and options held by alternative investment managers in Europe, the UK and the U.S. Her valuation experience spans various sectors, including business and consumer services, software and IT services, health care, manufacturing and hospitality, and geographic locations such as Europe, North America, Australia, Africa and the UK.

Catherine has also performed valuations under the context of FCA Section 166 Skilled Person Report, commercial loans pool due diligence, Expert Witness Report, IFRS 2, and Management Incentive Plan valuations for tax purpose.

In addition, Catherine has led the internal training on private debt valuation for the Kroll EMEA Portfolio Valuation practice. She was also a guest speaker at Cambridge University and at HEC Paris business school.

Prior to joining Kroll, Catherine was a senior associate in the Financial Services Audit practice at KPMG in London. She specialised in the banking sector and was involved in a wide range of audit engagements for large international banking groups as well as medium and smaller sized banks and brokers. She also focused on credit reviews, impairment of financial assets and IFRS 9.

Catherine holds a Master of Science in finance and economics from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Shandong. She is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
